Since I have been raising dogs the last three years,I have learned that they have definite personalities and are a whole lot like people.Enter two Yorkie girls,Bodangus and Ginger. We were at a dog sale in Missouri and I left the bidding tent briefly(probably visiting"Higdon") and when I got back David proudly announced that he bought me a dog and she had 7 pups her last litter.Well I was surprised at the news and went to see what he purchased and it was the biggest ,homeliest, gangliest Yorkie I had about ever seen with one flopped ear and she came with the name Bodangus .I had to squelch my comments about her looks,so we brought her home . We had gotten Ginger in Florida before and she was a beauty, all little and golden.Well ,Ginger didn't have any puppies for a year and I was ready to fix her up to take pictures and sell her for a pet and I realized she was pregnant. She had to have a C-section and produced one BIG male. But for all her cuteness she lacked any motherly instinct at all for her baby. She would hardly even look at him much less keep him clean and if he was'nt so aggressive he would have died from hunger. Well I cleaned and helped him go potty for a couple days to see if she'd kick in . Finally I took him out to the kennel to see if another Mama would adopt him. First I tried Shiloh,a Lhasa, and she got all upset at the little intruder . Finally I put him in with Bodangus and her 4 babies and she did'nt hesitate a moment and started cleaning him and smiled and welcomed him in her little family.See her smile??Meanwhile I put Ginger back in her familiar spot and she was so happy .She was rid of that squeaky pesty baby !! I guess some females are just meant to be ornamental.Bless sweet Bodangus -she smiles at me and keeps loving her own puppies and her little adopted boy......
